A New Thing - January 1, 2025
Scripture:
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
— Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
Devotional:
As we step into 2025, God’s words in Isaiah 43:18-19 remind us of His power to bring transformation and renewal. He invites us to leave the past behind—both the pain and the triumphs—and focus on the new thing He is doing right now.
Sometimes we hold on to old memories, fears, or disappointments because they feel familiar. But God’s message is clear: dwelling on the past can blind us to the incredible work He’s doing in our lives today. He’s already moving in ways we might not recognize, creating paths where there seemed to be none and providing streams in the driest places.
When I think about this scripture, I am reminded of the times when I felt stuck in a wilderness season. Everything seemed barren, and I couldn’t imagine how God could bring life to my situation. But then, He made a way. He showed me His faithfulness and turned my brokenness into something beautiful.
As you begin this year, take a moment to reflect: What are the former things you need to release? Trust that God’s provision is waiting ahead. Let go of the old so you can embrace the new. The streams of His goodness are already flowing, and His path for your life is unfolding even now.
This is your season for transformation. The new thing is here—do you perceive it?
Reflection/Challenge:
This week, take time to reflect on what God is calling you to release. Write down three things from your past—pain, fears, or even successes—that you need to let go of to embrace what He is doing now. Then, pray and ask God to open your eyes to the new things He is bringing into your life. Journal how you see Him making a way for you in areas that once felt impossible.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the promise of new beginnings. Help me to release the past—the pain, the mistakes, and even the successes—so that I can fully embrace the new thing You are doing in my life. Open my eyes to see the ways You are making and the streams You are providing. Thank You for Your faithfulness and for turning my wilderness into a place of growth and abundance. I trust You, Lord, and I step into this year with faith and confidence in Your plans. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
